PANDORUM is new to theaters. It stars a couple of guys that you know you’ve seen in other movies but can’t quite put a name to the face right away. Unless you’re one of those people that semi-stalks these dudes on the internet or something. The girl sitting next to me kept talking about how she was so in love with one of them.
So it’s a sci fi horror thriller about a flight crew that wakes up from hypersleep, which is this process that preserves people for hundreds of years so that spaceships can go really far space distances, and try to figure out what the hell happened. There’s some weird kind of creature living on the ship that’s like killing people or something. Then it turns out there’s a whole bunch of them. Then you find out there’s other people on the ship who have been awake for a while and have been surviving by hiding and killing these weird creature things.
There are some scary scenes, and then there are a boatload of plot twists. The movie basically should have been called Mindfuck in Space. If you’re into coherent plotlines, good acting, and stable editing and directing, this movie really isn’t for you.
But if you’re down to watch a bunch of shit explode, some weird ass creatures eat some dudes, and a whole bunch of crazy ass surprises, see this film. By the end I was actually blown away. The whole thing did turn out to be a pretty inventive story. There’s definitely nothing like this in theaters any time soon.
BTW, the name PANDORUM comes from a medical condition described in the film, where people who have been at space too long begin to hallucinate that things are trying to kill them, like monsters and ghosts, and they end up doing crazy, irrational stuff. So the film kinda gets into your head in a weird way. You start to wonder what’s real and what isn’t. The solution to all this is nothing short of ridiculous.
Overall, it was worth the money. Two hours I’m glad I wasted watching this thing.
Mostly because now I can tell people the plot and watch their faces get that WTF look on them.
That’s definitely my favorite facial expression.
